We are away this weekend so this #mealplanningmonday meal plan is short and sweet.

Monday: Almond & bulgar pilav with leftovers
Tuesday: Crab linguine
Wednesday: Pappa Pomodoro
Thursday: Golden Goujons of cod / chicken with garlicky yoghurt dip & veg sticks

The Almond pilav & leftovers is a regular Monday fixture as it fills us up, uses up the  leftovers and is yummy in this cold weather.

The crab linguine is from River Cafe Two Easyand sounds a bit fancy but is on there because there is some crab in the freezer that needs using up.

The Pappa Pomodoro, from River Cafe Easy, is a soup of sourdough bread cooked in lots of garlic, sage and tinned tomatoes. It is Sicilian in origin - I think - but is a great soul & stomach warmer for dismal, cold February days in London.

The Golden Goujons were last week's big discovery.  OK not exactly radical but thought it would be good to have a home made, heartier alternative in the freezer to fish and chicken fingers.  The recipe came from River Cottage Toddler Cookbook and they ROCK!  We all wanted more.

The recipe couldn't be simpler, basically you just:
  1. Cut 250g boned-out chicken or firm-fleshed fish, (skinned and deboned), into pieces
  2. Roll in plenty of flour
  3. Dip into 2 beaten eggs
  4. Roll in 100g fine breadcrumbs mixed with some thyme
  5. Fry in batches in about 2mm of olive for 3-4 minutes on each side
And it proved a great recipe for children to get involved - littl'un's fingers were by far the best at rolling the chicken and cod pieces in lots of flour and breadcrumbs. She took enormous delight in woolfing down three of her creations - and they weren't small!.

Overall, littl'un did well with new things last week - both the goujons and the gnocchi that after just a few weeks she eats happily without any suspicious poking or protests.

Fruit & veg however is still another matter ... so in the short term I'm still going to have to smuggle it in.  Beyond that I have been trying to pull together all the fussy eater tips I can find to see if I can come up with something that will help!
