Link Party Clicks

Unknown // Tuesday 22 October 2013

There are 100s of link parties out there ...

... you can find load listed by day and time at the bottom of this post ...

... but some bloggers say now we have Pinterest we don't need parties and some big parties such as House of the Hepworths and The Shabby Creek Cottage have ended.

Some link party hosts also claim we're no longer good party goers because we just don't click!!!

Clicking levels definitely vary between parties but as a stats geek I know a lot of parties give me clicks and my biggies such as Six Sisters Stuff and A Bowlful of Lemons deliver me 1000s of page views a month.

But as a party host I do see a massive variation in how much different posts get clicked. At Empty Your Archive some posts get hundreds of clicks whilst others only get a few.

So how do you get clicked?

Get to the party early for a start!! You can find start times at the bottom of this post ..

But also have a look at these posts that got loads of clicks at Empty Your Archive and recreate the secrets and tricks these bloggers have used to get clicked over and over again ...

1. A Stand Out Image

I am going to show you examples later of well clicked posts without a stand out image, but this is your easiest root to week in, week out clicks.

Make your images bright, bold & if you can different.

This image from The Jenny Evolution at my Halloween link-up is a great example of all three.

The link-up has been very popular with 211 links which so far have generated 1,691 clicks. Jenny took 103 of these clicks which is a whopping 13x more than the expected average!

This lovely post that Winnie shared in the big cakes link-up is another good example. It's hard to stand out amongst loads of gorgeous cakes but that eye-popping pink meant Winnie still got 3 times more than the expected average ...

2. Solve a Problem

Another great way to get clicks is to write posts that solve problems lots of people share.

The ADD Housewife shows how to do this in her post on line drying clothes which with 66 clicks was the most popular post in the laundry link-up which generated over 1,000 clicks.

3. Share Clever Tricks to Solve a Problem

You can do even better if you say that you're sharing a clever trick to solve a problem.

Happy Healthy & Domestic did this with her post on faking a clean house in 30 minutes which got an amazing 242 clicks from the total 2,333 clicks at the Routines link-up - i.e. she got more than 10% of all clicks!

I'm sure Alex won't mind me saying that her image isn't stand out in any way ... but her under the image title with that key word faking was ...

4. Have Something Different To Say

There are so many of us bloggers that we inevitably write about a lot of the same stuff.

Sorry About the Mess showed with her post on breastfeeding a toddler that a different take on a popular subject will generate clicks ... she got 61 clicks for the post which was 4x more than the average ...

5. Wave the Promise of Success

As bloggers we're all interested in more readers & more reader engagement.

There are loads of really helpful links in the blogging design link-up but the most clicked was from Diana Rambles because she focused on promising a successful outcome ...

6. Share a Secret

Telling people that you're sharing a secret is also a reliable way to get clicks ... no one wants to miss out do they?

Life With Moore Babies showed how to do this with her post on her "secret organisation tool" ... this was another post that didn't have a great image ... although it is bright ... but that little word secret generated 99 clicks from a total of 1,334 which was 5 times the average ...

7. Money Saving Ideas

We're all looking for ways to save money, especially at Christmas, which has made Beauty Through Imperfection's post on 27 ideas to save money at Christmas the best performer of this year's Christmas link-up so far, with 33 of 786 clicks to date ...

8. Everything You Need in One Place

I know not all link party hosts are keen on round-ups and I completely get their concerns, but we're all busy people and round-ups offer us everything we need in one place.

Even in a themed link up like Empty Your Archive, round-ups  do well.

For example, this pre-school science round-up which Babble Dabble Do shared in the science link-up has received 142 out of 1,900 clicks ...

9. The Promise of Fun

Most play posts promise fun but do slap the word fun in your title to get more clicks ;-)

Also look for images that we all associate with fun.

There are some great fun posts in the Outdoors link-up but this image from Life With Moore Babies of bare feet squelching in lovely fizzy side-walk paint just oozes fun and has generated 60 clicks from a total of 753, which is 4 times the average.

Link Party Calendar

This is my personal link party calendar ... so I keep the times and host links up to date.

The times are in EST which is GMT-5 and Sydney-14. If the party doesn't have a totally regular start time I have tried to give the earliest possible start time so you don't miss the start!

I am constantly adding new parties ... if you want your party added, leave me the details including host links and start time in a comment.
