How to Put Ads in Your Blog Header

Unknown // Thursday 11 April 2013

"Above the fold" ads generate more revenue for your blog.

These are the ads that are displayed on your blog without a user scrolling down.

Your blog header is an ideal place to put a big horizontal ad but by default Blogger doesn't let you.

If you haven't tried before give it a go - create a Gadget and try to drag it into the Header. You can't.

Luckily with a few tweaks to your template you can change this.

Before You Get Started

Before you make these changes do BACK UP YOUR BLOG!

Enable Header Gadgets in Blogger

  • Click on Template
  • Click on Edit HTML button
  • Click inside the code scroller and then click Control F which will make a search box display
  • Paste the following code into the search box: <b:section class='header' id='header'
    • The line you searched for will be highlighted, as above.
    • Next to the highlighted text, you will see it says: maxwidgets='1'
    • Change the number 1 to 5
    • Next to maxwidgets it will say: showaddelement='no'
    • Change the word no to yes
    • Underneath the highlighted text, it will say locked='true'
    • Change the word true to false
    • Click the Save Template button
    • The code will now look like this:
    • Go to Layout and you will see above your Header an Add a Gadget field
    • You can use this Gadget to add AdSense or the HTML for any other ad network
