I was in and out of hospital several times pre-labour and never had what I needed - my mum had to pack my bag in a panic once and I honest to god ended up with a wash bag that contained only toothpaste and insect repellent!!!!
So before the big day I went rooting around on various forums and other sites for the "comprehensive everything you need hospital bag" check-list and couldn't find it.
There were lots of half lists but nothing that included even some of what I knew from experience by then I would need.
I know some people will want to put off to the last minute but you never know if you're going to get suddenly admitted early - if you haven't packed you are at the mercy of your other half, your mum, sister, friends. From experience you really don't want to be! It's also worth packing more than you think you might need of night clothes, wash bag stuff and snacks in case you have so stay in before or after labour.
Finally, and more on this in other lists, do get a variety of sizes of baby clothes as you never know what size they're going to come out. DD weighed in at almost 8lbs but was ridiculously drowned poor lamb by the new baby and 0-3 months stuff and so needed an emergency run for tiny baby things.
