I feel we missed out a bit on sensory play when my daughter was a baby.
I wasn't blogging at the time and hadn't come across all the amazing - and easy - ideas there are out there.
I had it in my mind that sensory play was just trays and hadn't thought about sensory bottles, boards, bags and big tubs never mind paddling pools and ball pits or even a sensory scavenger hunt!
The great thing is that sensory play continues to be big fun for toddlers and older children and can be worked into so many imaginative, science, nature, cooking, sticking, reading and maths activities.
And I am also a real convert to it's positive impact on behaviour - a stressed and frustrated child can literally in minutes become calmer as they explore textures, smells, sounds and even tastes!
As I've been thinking about more and more ways in which we can work sensory activities into our play I've come up with a list of ideas - it's a mixture of materials, objects and themes - that we've tried ourselves or other mummy bloggers have had fun with.
Please do add all your ideas to the list and if you've got great sensory play posts do link them up at the bottom of this post ...
*Obviously all sensory play should be supervised and some small objects may be more suitable for babies and younger children in a closed bottle or zip lock bag.
