Halloween Costumes

Unknown // Friday 20 September 2013

Our Halloween trauma continues!

Three weeks back bad mummy knocked our one solitary pumpkin off it's stem.

But joy oh joy 2 more tiny pumpkins emerged and it looked like we were back in business for home grown jack-o-lanterns.

Until this morning we discovered one of our tiny pumpkins on the path with enormous holes in it. Caterpillar and centipede are the prime suspects!

We do have one little pumpkin left but we just can't get our hopes up that this one is going to make it all the way until Halloween.

So to prevent any more tears we're turning our efforts to Halloween costumes.

I love dressing up costumes but I completely refuse to fork out a fortune and my previous home made efforts, despite enormous effort, have been more than a bit rubbish.

I've been on the hunt for thrifty ideas that will appeal to my 3 year old and loved these that were linked up at Empty Your Archive (Wed @ 5pm EST) ...

If you are looking for more fun Halloween ideas, do check out the brilliant links at the bottom of this post and if you've got you're own Halloween posts do share them ...

Old Clothes & a Glue Gun

How cute is this owl costume made from an old hat, an old t-shirt and any random bits of fabric you've got going - and even better it's NO-SEW with everything done with a glue gun.

Thrift Shop Finds & $1 of Fabric

This super funky pirate costume by raiding the wardrobe and the dressing up box with just a few $s of extras from Walmart and a thrift store ...

No Sew Tutus

There are loads of tutorials for no sew tutus out there but I love how easy this is to follow, even if you're really not a crafter. And you don't have to limit tutus to tulle - you really can use any fabric strips you've got handy.

Costume Swap

Controlling Craziness was lucky enough to have a costume swap at her local library - how cool is that! - and found this lovely bee costume. This has totally inspired me to organise our own costume swap.

Beautiful Baby Costumes with Odds & Sods of Fabric

The great thing about baby costumes is that you really don't need much fabric at all to make something spectacular like this cute candy corn fairy from USS Crafty ...

And failing all that there is always resort to the bank of doting grandparents ... like these suggestions from a fabulously doting Texan grandmother Oh Mrs Tucker ...
