Learning the big letters via car number plates ...

Litttl'un is very keen to read the letters that she sees when she's out and about but can't yet recognise any of the big letters which are different from the little ones.  She learnt to recognise the little letters from a jigsaw someone bought her and so I'd had my eye out for an upper case jigsaw to buy for Christmas.

Having had a look at the jigsaws I was having second thoughts as the actual jigsaw bit of them was just far too easy and there are only actually 9 letters that differ.

Luckily serendipity struck.  We've been playing a game when we're out in which we try to spot everything we can beginning with a letter chosen by littl'un.  For some of the tricky letters we have to resort to car number plates but littl'un has enjoyed this so much that it has now become a game in it's own right.

I've made her some quick cards with both the lower and upper case letters on and before we go out we each pick one from the hat - she usually cheats and picks F for her own name - and then see who can spot the most on the cars we see on the way to the shops, to and from nursery etc.

Has turned into a really fab little game which is also brilliant at getting her to walk quicker as she runs from parked car to car to spot her letter - a double whammy!
