Our first Christmas craft project ...

Unknown // Friday 9 November 2012

Great excitement here today as we started our first Christmas craft project.  I am not a big crafter - totally in awe of those who are! - but this year we're trying to recapture the spirit of a seventies Christmas with some more frugal festivities and so gave these simple decorations a go.

The idea basically came down to what we'd got in the house which was some old green felt, a box full of spare buttons and some rather pretty ribbon that I think came off either some chocolates or a previous year's Christmas prezzie.

To save time I just googled "Christmas Tree Template" and printed the shape out on some card.  Littl'un, (who is almost 3), helped cut the felt out and chose the buttons and where to put them.  We decided to sew the buttons on rather than glue them which was a bit dull for her - she coloured in some other Christmas trees whilst this was going on - but would be a great easy sew idea for any child old enough to use a needle.

They don't look like much in the picture but really are pretty hanging up and we were very pleased with our first efforts!

Our next activity on our Christmas timetable is going to be planting some Christmas bulb pots.  We bought daffodil, crocus and  snowdrop bulbs and are going to plant them all hunker munker in paper mache pots.

And then we're going to make these fab reindeer Christmas cards from Jennifer's Little World.
